Job Description:
As a Research Technician, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting microbiological tests on animal feed, food, food additives, water, and veterinary samples.
- Performing aerobic culture testing and identifying foodborne pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli, Salmonella, Campylobacter, and others.
- Running PCR tests to detect bacterial pathogens.
- Performing Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) assays for antimicrobial susceptibility.
- Managing sample registration, ensuring proper documentation, and inputting results into the LabWare system.
- Supporting the development and enhancement of testing methods in collaboration with the laboratory head.
- Contributing to the implementation and maintenance of the quality management system.
- Providing technical support in research projects and assisting with technical tasks as required.
Job Requirements:
To qualify for this position, you must have:
- A BSc, B-Tech, or National Diploma in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience in food and feed analysis.
- Knowledge of bacterial pathogen testing and laboratory practices.
- SAVC and/or SACNASP professional membership is an advantage.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred.
