The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is inviting applications from qualified candidates for Claims Investigation Officer positions. This is an excellent opportunity to join the organization’s Operations Division and contribute to efficient claims investigations. The positions are available on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis. Purpose of the Role
The Claims Investigation Officer will provide effective and efficient investigative support services for claims lodged against the Road Accident Fund.
Key Responsibilities
Investigation and Assessment of Claims
- Trace insured drivers and witnesses to consult and obtain statements and dockets.
- Create detailed sketch plans of accident scenes as part of the investigation process.
- Capture clear photographs of accident scenes, involved parties, damaged vehicles, and injuries.
- Obtain and verify affidavits from relevant stakeholders (e.g., claimants, witnesses, employers).
- Identify and escalate potential fraud cases to the Forensic Investigation Department (FID).
- Provide support for witness presence during court proceedings and testify in cases involving fraud accusations.
Administrative Support
- Validate supporting documents (e.g., employment details, SARS information, paternity/maternity documents) for quantum investigations.
- Use systems like Natis and Cross Check to verify claimants’ and injured parties’ details.
- Verify ownership details of secondary vehicles involved in accidents.
- Conduct quality checks on submitted documents to confirm claim validity.
- Validate loss of earnings and prepare progress reports in alignment with internal service agreements.
Document and Records Management
- Maintain and monitor an effective filing system.
- Ensure files are accurately categorized and stored for easy retrieval.
- Administer filing processes according to the RAF’s filing plan.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of all documents and ensure correspondence reaches the correct recipients.
- Retrieve archived files as needed.
Stakeholder Management
- Provide guidance to claimants, witnesses, employers, and other relevant parties.
- Address complaints related to assessments and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Requirements
- NQF Level 7 qualification (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) in a relevant field.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Training as an investigator is advantageous.
- Certification as a fraud examiner is an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Prior experience in merit and quantum investigations will be advantageous.
