Key Responsibilities:

• Protection: Safeguard the University’s property, staff, students, and visitors through physical patrolling and access control enforcement.
• Compliance: Ensure that students, staff, and visitors follow the University’s security policies.
• Maintenance: Monitor and maintain security infrastructure (e.g., gates, street lights, burglar-proofing). Report any faults.
• Incident Management: Respond promptly to emergencies, secure crime scenes until supervisors arrive, and accurately document incidents.
• Security Systems: Operate security systems and equipment as required, ensuring their effective use.
• Escort Duty: Provide escort services for staff at night as needed.
• Record Keeping: Record incidents in the proper format and write clear incident reports.
• Searches: Conduct searches and manage lost and found items.
• Key Control: Safeguard and manage keys within the University.
• Policy Enforcement: Follow and enforce the University’s rules, regulations, and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4 or equivalent.
• PSIRA Registration: Valid Grade C registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in security services.
• Computer Literacy: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
• Clearance: A clean record from the South African Police Service.
• Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license is required.
• Physical and Psychological Fitness: The position requires medical, psychological, and physical fitness.

Working Conditions:

• Shift Work: The position involves 24/7 shift work, including day, night, and alternating shifts.
• Uniform: Employees must wear a uniform and work in all weather conditions.
• Firearm: Required to carry a firearm, depending on operational needs.
• Travel: The job may require working at multiple sites.
