South African Navy (SAN) Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Intake for 2026 | Apply with Matric

The South African Navy (SAN) invites young South African citizens to apply for their Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Intake for 2026. This is a two-year contract, providing military training in the first year, followed by deployment in the second year. The closing date for applications is 28 March 2025.

General Requirements

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

• South African Citizen (no dual citizenship).
• Age:
  • 18-22 years for Grade 12 applicants.
  • 18-26 years for those with a 3-year Tertiary Qualification or N6.
• Completed Grade 12 (APS score of 17 and above, excluding Life Orientation).
• No criminal record or pending cases.
• Comply with medical fitness requirements for the appointment.
• No visible tattoos on your legs, lower arms, neck, or face.

Fields of Interest

There are several areas you can apply for within the SAN, including:

Combat

• Age: 18 – 22 years.
• Requirements:
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science at Level 4 or higher (No Mathematical Literacy).

Engineering and/or Technical

• Age: 18 – 22 years.
• Requirements:
  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science at Level 4 or higher (No Mathematical Literacy).
  • Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an N6 qualification with a Trade Test.

Support

• Age: 18 – 22 years.
• Requirements:
  • Completed Grade 12.
