Cadet Fire Fighter Skills Program at the City of Cape Town | Apply with Matric

The City of Cape Town is offering a Cadet Fire Fighter Skills Program for unemployed youth. If you are physically fit and meet the requirements, this is your opportunity to gain skills and work experience in fire services. Applications close on 31 January 2025.
Program Details

Minimum Requirements
To apply, you must have:
- A Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred).
- Be 18 years or older.
- No fear of confined spaces or heights.
- Medical and physical fitness.
- Ability to work in a team and handle stressful situations.
- A clean criminal record.
Physical Fitness Tests
Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass the following tests:
- Reach test: Reach a height of 1.9 meters.
- 4 km run: Complete in under 11 minutes (males) or 13 minutes (females).
- Push-ups: Complete 30 in 60 seconds.
- Sit-ups: Complete 30 in 60 seconds.
- Dead load carry: Carry two 25 kg drums over 100 meters.
Additional Requirements for Shortlisted Candidates
If you pass the physical tests, you will also need to:
- Pass a written assessment and interview.
- Provide fingerprints or identity numbers for a criminal record check.
- Undergo a City medical evaluation.
- Complete a drug test at a City testing center.
- Pass claustrophobia and acrophobia tests.
Program Conditions
- The position is a non-permanent contract for the duration of training.
- Successful completion of the training program is required for appointment to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position.
- The program includes certifications such as Firefighter 1 (NFPA 1001), Hazmat Awareness (NFPA 1072), Hazmat Operations (NFPA 1072), and First Aid Level 3.
- Participants will need to wear uniforms and protective clothing.

- Submit your application through the e-recruitment portal.
- Required Documents:
- Certified copy of your South African ID.
- Recently certified copy of your matric certificate.
Note: No hard copy or emailed applications will be accepted. Smartphones are not compatible with the application process.
- Access to Computers:
If you don’t have internet access, use a Smart Cape computer at the City of Cape Town Library. To use these computers, you must first become a library member by presenting your ID and proof of residence.
