Job Purpose
As a Driver/Messenger, you will be responsible for safely transporting people, documents, and goods. You will also handle various administrative duties, ensuring the efficient operation of the office’s logistical and communication systems.
Key Responsibilities
Messenger Services
- Collect and deliver correspondence between institutions, ensuring timely delivery.
- Handle packages and documents with care and verify items before collection.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and communicate any delays.
- Plan efficient delivery routes and follow up to ensure completion.
Administration Tasks
- Assist with document archiving in compliance with the National Archives Act.
- Prepare records for transfer and manage off-site storage documentation.
- Monitor the operation of the postal service facility, ensuring all mail is processed efficiently.
Transportation & Operation
- Load and unload merchandise, ensuring secure transport of materials and staff.
- Recognize and report vehicle or equipment defects to the supervisor.
- Ensure that vehicles are properly maintained and perform daily inspections.
Reporting & Maintenance
- Report any defects, accidents, or traffic violations related to the vehicle.
- Keep the fleet management system up-to-date with accurate logbook entries.
- Report any service issues related to equipment and machines immediately.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Matric/Grade 12 certificate
- License: Valid code 10 (EC1/EC) driver’s license and professional driver’s permit
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a driving/messenger services role
