Job Purpose

The General Worker will help ensure landfill sites or transfer stations are operated in compliance with permit conditions. This includes maintaining cleanliness, inspecting waste, directing vehicles, and managing infrastructure and equipment on-site.


Appointment Requirements

  • Basic literacy skills.
  • Ability to perform the required duties.
  • Previous experience in waste management (advantageous).
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform physical work for long periods under challenging conditions.
  • Willingness to work shifts as determined by management.

  • Good health and physical fitness.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Teamwork and the ability to collaborate with others effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep landfill and garden sites clean and compliant with permit conditions.
  • Clean and maintain site offices, infrastructure, and equipment.
  • Remove windblown litter and debris from access roads.
  • Ensure stormwater channels and trenches remain unblocked and clean.
  • Inspect vehicles entering the site to ensure waste is authorized.
  • Direct vehicles to designated dumping areas.
  • Report any incidents or non-compliance to the supervisor.
  • Always follow occupational health and safety regulations.
