The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is hiring for 110 Driver Operator positions for earthmoving and non-earthmoving equipment. Applications close on 31 January 2025.

Job Details

• Position: Driver Operator (Earthmoving and Non-Earthmoving Equipment)
• Salary: R155,148 per annum (Level 03)

  • Ladysmith Region: 30 Posts
  • Durban Region: 58 Posts
  • Pietermaritzburg Region: 5 Posts
  • Empangeni Region: 16 Posts

Requirements

To qualify, you need:

• Minimum Education: Grade 10 Certificate (NQF Level 2).
• License: Code EC driver’s license with PrDP and an Operating Certificate or Departmental Competency Pink Card for specialized equipment.
• Experience: At least five years of driving and operating specialized equipment.

Skills and Knowledge

• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Good eyesight and physical health.
• Teamwork and equipment operation skills.
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment inspection.
• Understanding of safety measures and operating manuals.

Key Responsibilities

As a Driver Operator, your duties will include:

1. Operating Equipment:
   • Handle specialized equipment for construction and maintenance.
   • Load and offload goods and machinery.
   • Perform grading and re-raveling tasks on gravel roads.
2. Maintenance and Safety:
   • Inspect and maintain equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
   • Report defects and ensure safety protocols are followed.
3. Driving Services:
   • Transport work teams, materials, and equipment.
   • Address minor mechanical issues and complete vehicle logbooks.
