Job Purpose

As a cashier at Dis-Chem Pharmacies, your primary role will be to provide outstanding customer service at the point of sale, ensuring an excellent shopping experience. You will handle transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system following company policies and procedures, with a focus on accuracy and fraud prevention.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

• Grade 12/Matric Certificate.
• At least 6 months of cashier/till operations experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Strong numerical skills.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Basic customer service skills.
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service

• Follow Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and establish professional relationships with customers.
• Address customer complaints and escalate them to the Frontline Supervisor or management.
• Stay updated on current promotions and sales.

Transaction Management

• Process all purchases and payments, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards.
• Ensure accurate recording of all customer transactions.
• Perform tasks such as voids, price changes, and merchandise exchanges with proper authorization.

Cash Handling and Security

• Safely and securely manage cash and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Place cash in the drop safe as per standard operating procedures.
• Ensure personal codes and passwords remain confidential and updated regularly.

Operational Efficiency

• Ensure all outgoing stock or items are scanned and paid for.
• Assist with customer inquiries about store merchandise.
• Adhere to Dis-Chem’s security and safety policies.

Key Competencies

Essential

• Knowledge of cash register operations and maintaining cash drawers.
• Skills in processing sales, refunds, and payments.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong emotional intelligence and accountability.
• Time management and problem-solving skills.

Advantageous

• Proficiency in a third language.
