The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDOE) invites applications for Driver/Handyman Vacancies available across the province. This is a great opportunity for individuals with a valid driver’s license and maintenance skills to contribute to the education sector.
Position Details
- Job Title: Driver/Handyman (29 Positions)
- Salary Range: R155,148 – R182,757 per annum (Salary Level 03)
- Closing Date: 31 December 2024
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: Grade 10 certificate or school leaving certificate, along with a testimonial or letter from the principal.
- Driver’s License: Valid Code 8, 10, or 14 driver’s license.
- PDP: A valid Public Driver’s Permit (PDP).
- Skills and Attributes:
- Good communication and customer care skills.
- A responsible and reliable attitude.
- Willingness to work with learners.
- Understanding of public service principles.
- Experience Advantage: Proof of being part of the Presidential Employment Youth Initiative (PEYI) is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Driving Duties
- Transport learners, goods, or materials safely to designated locations while following traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Adhere to ECDOE safety policies during driving tasks.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or accidents, ensuring the safety of passengers and the vehicle.
- Maintain a clean and well-kept vehicle, conducting regular inspections for repairs or maintenance needs.
- Plan efficient routes to save time and fuel, ensuring timely arrivals.
- Complete and maintain the vehicle logbook daily, monitor service schedules, and ensure roadworthiness of vehicles.
- Report vehicle damages, retain petrol slips, and submit logbooks and petrol records to the SMT monthly.
- Assist passengers, including those with special needs, during boarding and disembarking.
Handyman Duties
- Perform general maintenance tasks across the facility, including plumbing, carpentry, and basic electrical work.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair faulty equipment and appliances.
- Ensure the safe operation of facility systems, such as HVAC, lighting, and security.
- Carry out routine maintenance tasks, including painting, cleaning, and minor renovations.
- Assist with loading and unloading goods or equipment when required.
- Collaborate with staff to coordinate maintenance activities efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance tasks and repairs performed.
