Position Details

Job Title: Teacher and Class Assistants (x21)

• Salary Range: R155,148 – R182,757 per annum (Salary Level 03)

Eligibility Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent school leaving certificate.
• A testimonial from your principal.
• Proof of participation in the PEYI program (advantageous).

Skills and Attributes

• Strong communication and customer care skills.
• Ability to identify learner needs and strengths.
• Understanding of Public Service principles and learners’ human rights.
• Willingness to work with learners with special education needs, including disabled learners.
• Patience, motivation skills, and a commitment to supporting learners’ self-esteem and development.
• Respect for and ability to identify talents in disabled learners.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support for Teaching and Learning

• Assist the Resource Class Educator with classroom organization and the management of learners with barriers to learning.
• Supervise classroom activities and observe learner performance during lessons.
• Help with administrative tasks and provide general classroom support.

2. Learner Development

• Read stories and engage learners in language development programs.
• Support learners in small groups to develop skills such as fine and gross motor coordination, number concepts, and perceptual abilities.
• Help learners with Life Orientation activities and provide progress feedback to educators.

3. Classroom and Activity Support

• Accompany learners on excursions and other planned activities.
• Assist with physical care, emotional support, and hygiene needs (e.g., wheelchair care, clothing neatness, sick learners).
• Support meal preparation and cleanup for therapeutic feeding programs.

4. Resource Management and Fundraising

• Help prepare, distribute, collect, and store Learner and Teaching Support Materials (LTSM).
• Maintain a tidy and organized Resource Classroom environment.
• Participate in school fundraising efforts.
